Breast Cancer Usually Diagnosed on Four Occasions

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

After the discovery of symptoms by the patient herself, breast cancer usually diagnosed on four occasions.

When a woman discovers a lump or abnormality in the breast (nipple flow, retracted nipple, asymmetry or ride) or in an armpit, it is important to consult a doctor to perform the necessary examinations. Scientific studies show that cancer discovered early has a better chance of cure.

The time between the discovery of something abnormal and early treatment can sometimes seem very long. This time necessary for the examinations, the diagnosis and determine the treatment best suited to each situation.

“My doctor told me the reason for waiting to start the treatment had waited to be sure of the diagnosis”

At a screening (Mammography for Breast Cancer)

At a consultation or a health check, the general practitioner or gynecologist propose to seek a breast abnormality after explaining the reasons and consequences of screening.

At a consultation in the usual gynecologist

During an inspection, the doctor may find an abnormality in the breast.

When monitoring a first breast cancer

When monitoring of breast cancer treatment, the physician verifies that a second breast cancer has not developed.

How Can I be sure the Diagnosis of Breast Cancer

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

The diagnostic assessment confirms that the anomaly suspected cancer. It specifies the type of cancer, evaluates and determines its size if it has developed in other parts of the body (see classification CAB).

The diagnosis of breast cancer can be performed by different specialists: gynecologists, sinologist, medical oncologist or radiologist in mammography for breast cancer (see “Professionals for Patient”).

As a first step, the physician examines the patient’s medical history, surgical and obstetric-gynecology, family and personal. It raises questions about his current symptoms that guide him in his diagnosis. It is important to mention all the symptoms identified even if they do not automatically result in cancer. After the interview, the doctor conducts a thorough physical examination and full breasts.

Physical examination takes into account eight elements:

The size of the tumor

The doctor asks the patient to lie on his back. The arm raised within the side of the patient. In this position, the breasts are spreading out and easier to palpate. If the abnormality is palpable, the doctor assesses its size.

The mobility of the tumor

The doctor then looks if the tumor moves under the skin or if it attached to the chest wall or skin.

The location of the tumor

Breast cancer detected early is important to identify where the tumor localized in the breast. This information is necessary for the choice of treatment.

There are four different sectors.

Physical examination

The aspect of pea on is sometimes a change in the skin around the tumor. This change is variable, the skin may be red (this is called erythematic), ulcerated, inflated (we say then that there is an edema) or be covered with small hard balls (nodules). It can also be folded or wrinkled.

The shape of the nipple and areola

The medical research if there is a systematic distortion, retraction, ulceration of the nipple or areola. These changes sometimes accompanied by a flow in the nipple.

Increasing the size of the tumor

The doctor asks the patient if she has noticed an increase in the size of the tumor.

Palpation of lymph nodes

Breast cancer is sometimes also an increase in the size of lymph nodes near the breast (in this case, it called lymphadenopathy). The doctor seeks ganglia abnormal feeling different places where they can find (mostly in the armpit).

Additional examinations

Depending on the interview and physical examination, the doctor may request further tests to confirm the diagnosis.

Radiotherapy for Breast Cancer

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

Radiotherapy used for many years to treat various cancers. It uses X-rays that reach the tumor and destroy cancer cells. Depending on the area and bodies to address neighborhood, the radii used are different (photons or electrons). These various types of rays are sometimes associated with each other. That is why, for the same treatment, a patient may be under different devices: cobalt therapy equipment or linear accelerators.

What are the objectives of breast radiotherapy? It makes radiotherapy depending on the type of cancer and its stage of development. Radiation usually offered after a breast surgery (postoperative radiotherapy). It aims to reduce the risk that the cancer comes back locally at the wall of the chest, the scar, breast and some lymph nodes, irrespective of the stage of disease. Radiation therapy usually performed 3 to 6 weeks after surgery.

In special cases, radiation therapy performed before breast surgery (preoperative radiotherapy). It aims to reduce the size of the tumor and to propose to the patient, whenever possible, conservative surgery if she wishes.

In rare cases, radiation therapy offered as a single treatment (radiotherapy only). This situation occurs when surgery is indicated against, particularly if the general condition of the patient does not permit general anesthesia or in the very special case of tumors that show inflammation.

The treatment with a radiation and control cancer are locally avoiding possible side effects and squeal. It must ensure the patient satisfactory aesthetic results.

What are the side effects and potential squeal of radiotherapy for breast cancer?

Rays reach the tumor, but also healthy cells. That is why radiation therapy sometimes causes side effects. Some appear during treatment, others after stopping treatment. They vary from person to person. Serious complications are rare now.

Radiotherapy for breast cancer is not painful and does not drop hair. The main side effects of radiotherapy early breast cancer are: redness, swelling of the breast, lymph edema, swelling and inflammation of the esophagus and fatigue.

Radiotherapy is it possible after a breast reconstruction.

Radiotherapy treatment is carried out preferably before undertaking a reconstruction of the breast (see “What can be done after a mastectomy?”). In this case, reconstruction generally delayed one year after surgery. However, if the patient has already had a breast reconstruction for aesthetic reasons or if it wants immediate reconstruction after surgery, radiotherapy is still possible. A multidisciplinary consultation needed to assess the need for radiotherapy or treatment with systemically (chemotherapy, hormone therapy).

Whatever the type of prosthesis used, the effectiveness of radiotherapy remains the same. In usual doses, radiation does not in most cases of alteration of the prosthesis. However, before radiotherapy, it is advisable to conduct an audit by a local breast MRI.

Deodorant has Risk Factors of Breast Cancer

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

In recent years, the deodorant has risk factors of breast cancer. So far, no evidence has shown this assumption, but many women are worried. Today, experts from the French Cancer Society provide a reassuring answer.

The use of deodorants would affect the growth of breast cancer in women: no scientific study has demonstrated this possibility. A group of experts from the French Cancer Society, made a detailed and scientific analysis on this subject. Conclusion: No scientific evidence has been identified for this hypothesis.

Breast cancer: deodorants Charged

Several studies have noted a high incidence of breast cancer in the area close to the application of deodorants anti-transpiration (the upper outer quadrant) and use more and more common for these products.
Based on these findings, several research teams have sought to establish a possible link between anti-sweat and breast cancer. The most broadcasts retained the possible role of parabens and aluminum salts. However, to date, no epidemiological study has shown the assumption that the use of deodorants had an effect on increasing breast cancer in women.

No scientific evidence

A group of experts of the journal Cancer Bulletin, Official Organ of the French Cancer Society is a scientific analysis and detailed answer to the anguish of the women on this topic. They reviewed 59 studies from the literature search and 19 items of different methodology. Is their conclusion? No scientific evidence for the hypothesis could not be identified. Moreover, these experts explain that there are no validated hypothesis may open on avenues of research interest. They argue that this issue does not constitute a public health problem and it seems pointless to continue research on this topic. The AFSSAPS in 2006 had published information in the same direction. That is no reason for concern about using of a particular deodorant.

The importance of screening for breast cancer. What are the known risk factors for breast cancer? A minority of breast cancers related to a family who inherited form occurs most often at a young age, one of the major risk factors remaining estrogen. Thus, the prevention of this scourge based primarily on mammography screening cancer.

Breast cancer remains the most common cancer of women in Western countries: it affects one in nine women, mostly after menopause. It has caused 11 000 deaths in France in 2005. More breast cancer detected early; the greater the chances of recovery are important. Thanks to early detection, half of breast cancers detected when they are less than 2 cm. This level of detection can achieve very high cure rates while reducing the aggressiveness of treatment applied. You must regularly monitored by a doctor or a gynecologist who will prescribe the necessary examinations. particularly if it considers that you have family risk factors of breast cancer. This medical must be conducted every 6 months or every year from 30 years.
In France, the organized screening (every two years, a mammogram supported 100% by health insurance without advance fee) is available to women from 50 years and up to 74 years.

The Ways to Improve Brain Ability

Saturday, August 15th, 2009

There are many ways to improve the brain ability. There are many ways to synchronize nerve cells in the brain. We can get it with physical therapy, and psychological. The latest therapy and more easily, effectively are by the simulation of the wave brain. We are introducing to you bellow.

I am sure you have heard the word of endorphin, natural biochemical materials produced in the brain when you are doing sports. It can make you vibrant. But did you know that Endorphin also produced brain waves when conditions are on the phase between the alpha and beta. Endorphin is not only make you feel vibrant and shape. Endorphin substances can also increase your concentration and ability to remember.

Scientists believe that the brain that produces endorphin is on the same area involved in learning and remembering. Results of research in the North Western University prove that when someone is being learned something, the brain “reward” himself with the endorphin. This is believed as the cause of why new things more easy to remember and started again.

In other words, learn and remember it is easy to do when there is enough endorphin in your brain, a condition occur when the brain waves are on the right. You can get other benefits when you focus on the configuration of alpha brain waves and theta, you will be much easier to get ideas in work, create, or solve the problem you are facing.
